Smart technology of road network optimization
Our team has successfully fulfilled a research project funded by a government grant. During the project, we created a customized solution for the redevelopment of built-up areas using genetic algorithms (this is a type of AI, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genetic_algorithm). In particular, our solution helps to find the optimal boundaries of public spaces and the road network in terms of people's needs and existing restrictions.
On the one hand, modern cities need to increase in recreational spaces, road network capacity as well as modernization of engineering infrastructure, which actually means an increase in area of public spaces. On the other hand, city governments face many obstacles in expanding public spaces. Among them are existing buildings, land plots, related tenure rights, cultural heritage, environmental restrictions, etc. All of them affect the cost of implementation or even make reconstruction impossible.
With this in mind, we have developed an AI solution to find the optimal multi-factor balance between all requirements, constraints, and resulting implementation costs.
