AI for waste management in a smart city

Sometimes we can see such views in our cities:
  1. Overfilled trash containers, unpleasant smell, unsanitary, repelling view;
  2. Littered areas around garbage collection points;
  3. Most of these containers are located in public areas particularly near the streets;
  4. Trashed streets, pavements and not used pieces of land.

How we can rectify these issues with AI-based digital transformation. Here is a preliminary action plan:

1. Waste management digital database and user application creation
  • Current points of garbage collection inventory (using existing database and archives, aerial maps, specially designed AI digital techniques);
  • Population distribution obtained from available sources;
  • Citizen’s feedbacks obtained by means of community engagement through a special GEO-portal and mobile application;
  • Garbage collection standards.

2. Multi-parametric AI-optimization of trash bins and containers distribution:
  • number;
  • location;
  • capacity.

3. Garbage disposal process AI-optimization aimed to reducing cost and increasing efficiency.
  • Development of cleaning standards, order, frequency and mandatory procedures (trash collection, containers washing, surrounded areas cleaning, etc.);
  • Schedule of cleaning as per every single track;
  • Tracks routes calculation.

4. Implementation of an AI digital solution (including mobile application) for daily planning, monitoring and control of garbage disposal
  • General and individual daily plans generation (in automated mode);
  • Online control all the trucks in the GIS-app via GPS;
  • Digital photo reports receiving after processing each garbage collection point;
  • Centralized control and analysis all the trucks both manually and using AI-technologies;
  • Generation of number of reports showing the state of garbage collection in different aspects including problems related to the company itself and concrete employees.
